Curriculums

Last week we finished the Book of Mormon curriculum (Religion 122) in the Tuesday evening (adult institute) and Thursday morning (Kidstitute - young mothers) classes. In August we will begin a new cornerstone curriculum with the Tuesday night class entitled "Foundations of the Restoration" (Religion 225). This will take us until the end of the year when we will return to the beginning of the Book of Mormon (Religion 121).

In the Thursday morning class, we will teach a 5-week mini-course on "Daughters in My Kingdom" at the request of the young mothers.  Then we will start the "Foundations of the Restoration" course but going at a faster pace in order to finish by the end of December.

When we arrived last September, these classes were studying Jacob 5. As the classes only meet once a week, it is a detailed study of the doctrines and principles taught in this book of scripture.

The Thursday evening class (young single adults) finished the "Teachings of the Living Prophets" curriculum quite some time ago, and we began the short curriculum (15 lessons) of "The Gospel and the Productive Life" (Religion 150). When we finished that a couple of months ago, we began one of the new cornerstone courses, "Jesus Christ and the Everlasting Gospel" (Religion 250).  We are about half way through that manual. In every lesson we have the opportunity to bear testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ, and some aspect of his life and ministry.

In Seminary, we are soon to begin a new school year, and several new teachers have been called to teach the early-morning classes.  As a result we have the assignment to do the New-Teacher Training courses for the teachers in the Albany area, an assignment usually filled by the CES supervisor.  This course is new this year and features at-home learning modules combined with four hands-on workshops. The manual for this training is the handbook, "Fundamentals of Gospel Teaching and Learning."

Without doubt, we are the ones learning the most as we fill these assignments, and we are grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow in capacity and testify of gospel truths.
