Tonight the temple missionaries will join with the site missionaries for a special evening at the Smith Farm.
It is wonderful to drive by in the evening as we come and go and see the trees and outer fence around the parking lot all lit with pale blue lights. It is so peaceful and serene.
Only a few days ago we walked into
the grove so we could say that we'd visited there
in all four seasons. I have to admit that the appearance in the winter doesn't compare (without snow at least) with the other
three seasons of the year, but the spirit is the same.
Speaking of snow, we haven't had any significant snowfall since April of this year. Not that I'm complaining . . .
Check out these cute Santa pictures of our grandchildren who are changing before our eyes since we are not with them. This weekend we will welcome Emily and Scott's family to Palmyra for a couple of weeks. They will be staying with Scott's extended family in Palmyra, but we will get to spend time with them while they are here - including family traditions on Christmas Eve.
Last night we attended the Rochester Mormon Choir Christmas Concert. It was a perfect way to invite the Spirit of Christ...mas during this wonderful season. Tears streamed down my cheeks as one of our Tuesday morning shift temple workers sang a beautiful rendition of "O Holy Night" for the closing number. It was an amazing concert!
There is nothing like Christmas in the mission field. None of the expectations of the season as we know it exist here (i.e. excessive baking, shopping, decorating, delivering, hurrying, partying etc.). I doubt we'll ever have another Christmas like it, but it is a good reminder to us of what really matters. The only thing missing is all the family.
Thank goodness for skype!
