We spent our holiday at the temple . . .
but it was no ordinary evening.
All the workers that live locally were given the night off because we did not expect many guests.
We had a wonderful buffet typical of the Fourth to feast on in the kitchen during breaks.
One of the workers even brought firecrackers (don't worry - they were edible).
The real excitement began about midway through the session when we lost all technology capability - a first for this temple (that we know of) except for those rare times when the electricity has gone out due to bad weather. (For those wondering, we were one of 7 temples throughout the world that experienced this software-generated hardware damage due to the installation of a foreign language disc. Things are still not completely resolved.)
It just so happened that we were some of the ones leading the session.
It was a little stressful, but as is always the case - things worked out. We ended up finishing the way it use to be done before technology made things so convenient.
We were able to go home early that night (still daylight), so we grilled some hot dogs; and then when it got dark, we turned off the lights and opened the blinds in our apartment to watch the fireworks from our couch.
It turned out to be a memorable (in a good way) 4th of July celebration.
