Teaching, No Greater Call

A blog post hasn't been written yet on 

the main thing we do every week. . . .

. . . We teach Institute.

Tuesday evening we teach an adult class made 
up of branch members, young and old.  We even 
have a few investigators; and when we do, 
the elders and sister missionaries join us.

Thursday morning we teach Kidstitute - a class for 
young mothers who bring their small children.  
They look forward to attending the nursery.  Most of 
these moms are supporting their husbands while 
they work on graduate degrees at nearby universitites.

On Thursday evening we teach Young Single Adults. 
We also support their activities, often providing 
rides and food.

On Friday we have a make-up class for a 
few who can't make their regularly-scheduled class.

The YSA class currently studies the words 
of the living prophets.  The other classes study 
the Book of Mormon.

This week the lessons were all on the 

Atonement of Jesus Christ.

No two lessons are EVER alike.

The way we know if the lesson was a success is 

something that happens as a result of 
learner participation.  When class members 
begin to share personal experiences 
that testify of the principles being taught, 
something very 
powerful and indescribable happens.

Between my companion and me, we have accumulated 

hundreds of classroom hours over the last 3 decades 

learning how to be teachers, but we weren't 

effective gospel teachers until very recently. 

And we still have much to learn.

It is nothing we do of ourselves.

Clearly, the Savior’s way of teaching is different from the world’s way.

Our purpose is to help youth and young adults understand and rely on the teachings and Atonement of Jesus Christ, qualify for the blessings of the temple, and prepare themselves, their families, and others for eternal life with their Father in Heaven.

There is no greater calling!
