This week we had Zone Conference . . .
my first (unless you count the times
I helped prepare meals in our home
stake for Zone Conference --
which was pretty great but
nothing like being a participant).
After the opening hymn and prayer,
an assigned missionary led the group
in standing and reciting our purpose . . .
Invite others to come unto Christ
by helping them receive the restored gospel
through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement,
repentance, baptism, receiving the Holy Ghost,
and enduring to the end.
Then another missionary led the
group in this memorized quote
from Preach My Gospel:
I have often said one of the greatest secrets of
missionary work is WORK! If a missionary works,
he will get the Spirit; if he gets the Spirit, he will
teach by the Spirit; and if he teaches by the Spirit
he will touch the hearts of the people and he will be
happy. There will be no homesickness, no
worrying about families, for all time and talents and
interests are centered on the work of the ministry.
WORK, WORK, WORK! There is no satisfactory
substitute, especially in missionary work.
(Pres. Ezra Taft Benson)
When the group gets to the part of
"WORK, WORK, WORK,"
it is pretty much at high volume and energy.
The elders punch the air downward
and the sisters pump their hands heavenward.
The spirit felt is indescribable!
And that is just the beginning of a wonderful
day of spiritual uplift and instruction.
