Today we switch to summer schedule which means the temple goes from 8 shifts (of
which we serve on 6) to 14. The couples serving for six months will cover the extra shifts that are added. We attended a training meeting for the
new summer missionaries last Monday evening so that we (the year-round
missionaries) could get acquainted.
Elder Cook, an area Seventy, spoke to us. He told about the background surrounding the building of the
Palmyra temple. It was interesting to hear stories from someone who was involved with the process
(when, where, etc.) of bringing this temple to this area. Our temple district has about 21,000
members. Approximately 4000 are
recommend holders. Of those, 440
work in the temple – 1 in 10. Some
drive hours (up to 4) each way to come and serve. Because of the distance, many come only once or twice a month
instead of weekly. Their cheerful sacrifice is a powerful example of devotion and consecration.
